 Volley South Winter Male Development Program


  1. Shift in Focus: After the conclusion of the Lower South Island age group tournaments in Dunedin and the VNZ IPC in Wellington, our attention now turns to advancing the male junior and senior programs for 2025. Additionally, we're gearing up the 2025 age group season, and Club Nationals.
  2. Optional specialized Training: Understanding the importance of tailored development, we have arranged specialized training sessions to target specific areas of improvement for each player.Friday nights https://www.volleysouth.org.nz/development-performance/volleyball-academy
  3. One-Day Tournaments: In addition to the regular training schedule, we have organized two one-day tournaments in September, offering our players the chance to test their skills and strategies in competitive environments.
  4. Development-Oriented Team Formation: Players have been grouped into 2-4 teams tailored to their development needs, guaranteeing optimal growth opportunities for each individual. These teams will compete on Wednesday and Saturday nights, as well as in the two upcoming tournaments.
  5. Wednesday League Update: We are pleased to inform you that the Wednesday league will revert back to gender-based divisions in line with rivals, starting from the commencement of this new program for Round 3.
  6. Announcing a Brand New Saturday Night League: In addition to our existing programs, we are thrilled to introduce a brand new Saturday Night League! This league will bring together players of all genders to compete in appointed teams, fostering camaraderie and skill development. We will be extending invitations to the wider community and teams from outside our region to participate. Saturday fixtures allow for easier travel, making it accessible for teams from afar to join us.

Rivals Wednesday Nights - Round 3 2024

Volley South male teams will be put into two-four teams in the Rivals Grade. Players cannot be in a community team during Round 3 as this is Club Nationals preparation. With increased entries, the league will revert to male and female Rivals leagues.

  • Cost: $360.00 ($36.00/player) pay by 10 July 2024  for the league and training, 6:00-9:00 PM

    • 8 August 2024: Double round, league and training
    • 14 August 2024: Not available - teams registered in this round will get a free refereeing and scoring clinic

Referee and Score Sheet Training- open to all 

Every representative player attending IPC or Club Nationals must know how to complete a score sheet and must be currently obtaining or have completed their Regional Referee qualification, as mandated by VNZ for these tournaments.

Training Session:

All players are required to participate in this training to ensure compliance with tournament requirements.

Volley South reserves the right to invite U19 and U17 male players as training partners for the men at no cost to the partners.

Players must pay $50.00 per person by 1 August 2024 for August training sessions, Maroon and gold only

 Winter league Cost: $120 per team - reduced as teams must do full duty in preparation for tournaments.

The following players are invited to men's trainings as we are looking for three more players for club Nationals in October: 

  1. Training Sessions and Competitions: We are excited to announce that we have meticulously arranged a series of training sessions and competitions to enhance male player development. There will be 18 training sessions, along with two six-week competitions where players will participate in squads, providing them with valuable experience alongside setters and other essential positions.
  2. Fundraiser Initiative: Volley South has initiated a fundraiser, allowing selected men's players to commence fundraising activities to support the team's needs and endeavours. See below.

  • 21 July 2024: Training, Court 2, 12:00-4:00 PM -This training might be canceled because Volleyball NZ will be in Invercargill with a comprehensive coaching workshop for several of our player /coaches. Details are still to be confirmed.

Gold team only - Southern Zone Tournaments

The Gold team will participate in at least one Southern Zone Tournament in Christchurch, preferably in July due to the calving season. The cost of participation, including training, league entry, and tournament expenses, will be shared among the players. Non-attendance at scheduled activities will result in removal from the squad.

Overall, players are expected to fully engage in all training sessions, league games, and tournaments to ensure thorough preparation for the Volleyball NZ Club Nationals.

  • 26-29 July 2024: Canterbury
    • Entry fee and staff costs to be split between players, and invoiced. Players to arrange and pay for their own transport, accommodation, and food. Can carpool/flexible flights/accommodation.

Volleyball NZ Club Nationals October 1st to 6th, 2024

For U18 participants, accommodation arrangements are a bit different. They must either stay with family or travel under the supervision of our dedicated staff. For inquiries regarding costs, reach out to us at info@volleysouth.org.nz.

Team costs, including staff expenses, will be evenly divided among the final participating teams.

Additionally, we're actively pursuing funding grants and sponsorships to further support this exciting event. Stay tuned for updates!


No Pay No Play

This policy has been in place for several years. If payments are not received by the due dates, players will be removed from the team. We advise all players to book everything with full flexibility and free cancellation in case it becomes unviable to send a team.


Sample Fundraisers Below for Gold and Maroon  team - selected to go to Club Nationals either VNZ or Australia or both

If you sell 50 raffle tickets, with each ticket number corresponding to its dollar value (e.g., ticket 1 equals $1, ticket 50 equals $50), you would raise the sum of the first 50 natural numbers.

So, you would raise $1,275 by selling 50 tickets.
